Calx, operated by LongSession LLC ยท Last updated 17 October 2026
Calx is a food-logging app. You photograph or describe a meal, and the app estimates its calories and nutrients. This page says what information the app handles, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be scrolled past.
What we collect, and why
| Information | Why | Where it is held |
|---|---|---|
| An anonymous account identifier, created the first time you open the app; your Google account email and name if you choose to sign in with Google | So your log belongs to you across devices, and so we can delete it on request. The name is shown on your profile, where you can change it | Firebase Authentication (Google); the name is also kept with your profile in our database |
| What you tell us during setup: sex, date of birth, height, weight, goal, activity level, diet preferences | To compute your daily calorie and macronutrient targets | Our database, hosted on Supabase |
| Your food log, weigh-ins, exercise, water, fasting windows, saved meals, custom foods and badges | That is the product | Our database, hosted on Supabase |
| A profile photo, if you choose one | To show on your own profile | Supabase Storage. It is shown only to you - never to other users - and is deleted when you remove it or delete your account |
| Photos of meals you choose to scan | To estimate what is in them | Supabase Storage, and sent once to Anthropic's Claude model for analysis (see below) |
| Text descriptions of meals you type or dictate | Same | Sent once to Anthropic's Claude model; the resulting log entry is held in our database |
| Barcodes you scan | To look the product up | Looked up against Open Food Facts; the barcode is cached on our server |
| A push-notification token for your device | To tell you when an analysis finishes while the app is in the background | Our database; delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging |
| Purchase records (a purchase token, never a card number) | To know what you are subscribed to and to verify it with Google Play | Our database; Google Play handles payment |
| Usage events (which screens were reached, whether a scan succeeded), the app version, device model and OS version | To find out what is broken and what is confusing | Firebase Analytics (Google). No free text you type is ever sent as an analytics event. |
| An attestation that the app is a genuine install from Google Play | To stop abuse of the analysis service | Firebase App Check with Play Integrity (Google) |
Meal analysis and the model
When you scan or describe a meal, the photo or text is sent to our server and from there to Anthropic's Claude model, which returns an estimate. Anthropic processes it to produce the answer and, under its commercial terms, does not train on it. We keep the photo for up to one year so you can see what you logged; after that it is deleted. The nutrition figures you accepted are kept with your log.
We also keep a record of each estimate together with any correction you made to it, so we can measure and improve the model's accuracy over time. When you delete your account these records are kept but de-identified: the account identifier is removed from them and they can no longer be connected to you.
Health Connect
If you connect Calx to Health Connect, the app reads two things from it: your step count and your active calories burned, for the day you are looking at. It reads nothing else, and it never writes to Health Connect.
- Both are read on your device, to show your steps and the calories you burned beside that day's food log. They are not sent to our server, not stored in our database, not sent to Anthropic and not included in analytics.
- They are not sold, not shared with anyone, and not used for advertising.
- You can disconnect at any time in Health Connect's own settings. The app then stops reading, and nothing it read before was kept.
Calx's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Groups, public profiles and reports
Groups are optional. Nothing below applies until you create a public profile.
- What other members see: your public profile's name, username and avatar, your current and longest streak, your badge count, and the messages you post in a group. A group's chat is visible to its members and to nobody else.
- What we store: your public profile, the groups you belong to, and the messages you post. A message you or the group's owner removes is no longer shown, but is kept, marked as removed, until the group or your account is deleted, so that a report of it can still be reviewed.
- Reports: when you report a message or a person we store that you reported it, the reason you chose, and when. The person you report is not told who reported them. Reports are read by the people who moderate the service, alongside the message or profile reported.
- Blocks: the list of people you have blocked, which only you can see. The people you block are not told.
- Moderation: to enforce the community rules we may hide or remove messages, reset a public profile's name and suspend an account from posting, and we keep a record of what was decided.
Leaving a group stops you seeing its chat; the messages you posted stay in it unless you remove them. Deleting your account deletes your public profile, your memberships, every message you posted, your blocks and your reports.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
- We do not read or send the text you type into the app as analytics.
- Your weight, your goals and your food log are never shown to other users. A public profile, if you create one, carries a name, a username, an avatar, a streak and a badge count and nothing else - there is no field for anything more.
- The app does not request your location, your contacts or access to your photo library. The camera is used only when you open the scanner. When you pick a meal photo or a profile photo, your phone's own picker gives the app only the one picture you chose.
Who else processes data on our behalf
- Google (Firebase) - authentication, app attestation, push notifications, analytics, and the remote configuration that defines the setup questions.
- Supabase - the database, file storage, and the server that connects the services listed here. Hosted in the United States (Northern California).
- Anthropic - meal analysis, as described above.
- Google Play - subscriptions and in-app purchases.
- Open Food Facts - a public nutrition database queried for barcodes. Only the barcode is sent.
How long we keep it
Your account and log are kept until you delete them. Meal photos are deleted after one year. Analysis records are de-identified when you delete your account. Analytics events are retained by Firebase Analytics for 2 months.
Deleting your account
In the app: Profile โ Account โ Delete account. This removes your profile, your entire log, your photos, your device tokens and your purchase records, and de-identifies the analysis records as described above. It cannot be undone.
Without the app: see the account deletion page.
Your rights
You can see everything the app holds about you in the app itself. You can correct your setup answers in Profile at any time. You can delete all of it as described above. If you are in a jurisdiction that grants further rights over personal data, you can exercise them by writing to the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Calx is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and Switzerland. The setup asks for a date of birth, and the app does not complete setup for a younger user.
If you are under 18
Calx works differently for anyone whose date of birth makes them under 18, because the adult formulas and goals in a calorie tracker are not designed for a body that is still growing:
- There is no weight-loss or weight-gain goal and no target weight. Your daily calorie target is your estimated energy needs, worked out with equations made for people your age, and it is never set below that, including when you edit it by hand.
- Body-mass index ranges are not shown, because the adult ranges do not apply under 18.
- Intermittent fasting is not offered, and groups are not available.
- Analytics collection is turned off on your device once your date of birth is entered, so how you use the app is not measured. The screens before that question may already have been counted, without anything you typed.
Everything else in this policy applies in the same way: your log, your weight and your photos are stored and processed as described above, and are deleted when you delete your account. A parent or guardian can contact us at the address below about a child's account.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will tell you before the change takes effect. The date at the top is the date of the current version.
